The sun is already heating up on the gaping ruins that still dot the village when Antoine, our head of mission, and Abu Danny, our translator, arrive there on this spring morning. As in their previous visits, they are deeply moved by the still devastated streets of Qaraqosh. This Christian village on the Nineveh Plain saw its population flee when Daesh arrived on August 6, 2014.
Liberated again in 2016, Qaraqosh, destroyed, a nightmarish picture, like something from another world. Everything had to be rebuilt. Today, of the 15,000 families present before the war, 6,000 have been able to resettle there.
SOS Chrétiens d'Orient has therefore set up a reconstruction project: we offer funds to families who commit to returning to live in Qaraqosh so that they can rebuild their homes. Already 85 houses have been repaired thanks to the association's help and work is progressing at a rapid pace.
This morning, SOS Chrétiens d'Orient came to donate funds for the renovation of nine more houses. Much remains to be done so that Christians can live peacefully in their homes.
Help us to raise Qaraqosh from the ashes. Make a donation.
