Volunteer's testimony in Egypt - A little father of SOS.

EN - Friday, 11 September 2020

SOS Chrétiens d'Orient sends volunteers in mission throughout the year. Like our little Father, come and live an unforgettable experience in Egypt. Don't ask yourself any questions. The only limits are those in your mind.

Per day, the mission of a volunteer costs 33 € to the association. If you can't leave, support a volunteer on a mission, donate.

I was supposed to go to Lebanon... in this poor cedar country traumatized once again by this terrible explosion; finally, I went in the mission in Egypt where Benjamin, General Manager of SOS Chrétiens d'Orient, offered me to go...

New unknown experience, with young volunteers full of enthusiasm and strength of mind, like their remarkable head of mission, which was disturbing: entering slums, not visited by Westerners, except those of SOS Chrétiens d'Orient ; discover the lives of the rags for whom Sister Emmanuelle had given her life, with Dr. Adel; extreme poverty, indigence, precarity... slums of Ezbeth el-Nakhl, of May 15, of Mokkatam... play games with orphans, visit disabled people or elderly in ′′nursing home ′′ make you rethink about the needs necessary to finally be happy; families in unexpected poverty and dirt, living conditions and smells that we can't imagine and describe; teaching basics of French; make patrols at night in Cairo; meet this people of the East; donations of food, money, medication for the poor and rejected in these countries of Middle-East...

Experiencing meeting with our big brothers in the East, the first Apostolic Churches: whether they are Coptic Orthodox, Armenian with its adorable bishop, Monseigneur Koussa, who is likely to become the Bishop of Old Stones due to lack of community, Greek-Melkite, Latin... not to mention the kindness and encouragement of Monseigneur Thévenin, the apostolic nuncio, towards SOS Chrétiens d'Orient... what a wealth, what wonders...

On this land of Islam today, we encounter the first Christian communities of which we are the fruit: their statuses, their places in these lands of the East and elsewhere, the blood they often shed said their faithfulness to Christ, Easter morning winner, death, hatred, darkness...

Support them here in the west, so that they continue to exist there, at home and be watches, witnesses, sentinels of merciful love, which they were the first witnesses and actors... and remain so despite extreme conditions. Their martyr on a daily basis fertilizes the Western land which has apostasy its faith and history ... kind of like the Virgin tree that Islamists at the beginning of the Egyptian revolution tried to burn and which still continues to bear fruit!

The experience of being at the service of the poorest, the needy, Eastern Christian communities, cannot really translate into words: it lives, experiences: serve the poor, the sick, rejected, anawim is to serve Christ... trying to put ourselves at their service very soberly, very humbly, we want to pay tribute to them for their faithfulness to Christ and allow us to continue here, for better or worse, to testify to our faith with a little more courage and boldness, in the face of the general anesthesia in which our old Europe, unfairly, falls a little more every day... unfortunately sometimes driving our Latin Church...

We want to tell them our gratitude for being who they are on this land that was theirs before becoming the land of Islam...

Thank you our big brothers in the East, for telling us that at the end of the night always comes up the light, even in the heart of darkness... that on Easter morning, we are already risen and that we can, feet on the ground, have part of our soul already in heaven. Without them yesterday at home, we wouldn't be here today; without them today, we won't be here tomorrow.

Thank you SOS: keep your know-how but above all independence from the state which locks NGOs and therefore prevent wanting to do all things new with everything that makes the association's successs: boldness, strength of mind, heroism, sacrifice , concrete self-commitment on the ground, where others do not go, and in time, choose to risk everything for Christ...

Thank you all the volunteers and heads of mission: you are an example of heroism, you give us a meaning of sacred and an ideal (Faith, Hope and Charity) that elevate this world for its salvation and a greater glory of God! May the Lord bless you and yallah!
