On 31 October 2010, in the midst of Baghdad, 58 persons including 45 Syriac Catholic Christians Iraqi were murdered in an islamist attack in the heart Our Lady of Salvation Cathedral.

At 3.15pm, after reading a passage from the Bible and the beginning of a prayer, nine al-Qaeda jihadists stormed the cathedral. Among others, two priests aged 27 and 32, seven children and a pregnant woman are brutally murdered during mass.

The collateral victim of this terrible attack will be the school adjoining the cathedral. founded over fifty years ago, it was the first catholic school in Baghdad. deprive of subsidies from the Iraqui State, it closed its doors. Result: hundreds of christian children forced to attend.

Former student and teacher at school

Christians in Baghdad are looking forward for the reopening of the school. They know that their children will be in school safely. The education provided here was of a very good quality: mathematics, english, history, geography...

If there is a way to reopen school, do it, please!

Today 560 families are unable to offer their children access to education due to their displaced persons status: difficult access to schools, transport problems, lack of funding for studies, etc.

With the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), SOS Chrétiens d’Orient is committed to rebuilding the Syriac Catholic school in order to allow the establishment of a reference educational center for the Baghdad community and in this way maintain the Christian presence in the capital.

Today, rehabilitation of the school complex is over, but the project is not complete yet. The rooms are empty of furniture. The association is committed to financing the purchase of school equipment for laboratories, computer rooms, classrooms for a total cost of 357 777$.

82 uniforms cost 3 912$

Classroom furnishings cost 9 780$

By participating in this project, you will give back a future to Iraqi children.

In September 2018, help 700 children return to school.
