In the isolated villages of el Gouira and el Bangar and in the slums of Cairo, mostly Christian, families are gathering in small houses, often made of steel, or small apartments like those in Matarya. Living conditions are basic and food needs urgent, especially for young children. Winter comes and with it a striking cold.

“Everyone has to find out how to fight for more joy in the world. The world is like a mirror: if you give joy, you get it. Giving life an effervescence, it makes us understand that we are alive, and brothers and sisters of all the men around us.”

For Christmas, 400 food packages, 2000 warm clothes and medicine boxes were distributed to families, children and sick in poor neighbourhoods and remote villages. All of them welcomed the volunteers with free smiles and sincere thanks. In Matarya, with the help of Dr. Adel, volunteers distributed packages containing about 15 foodstuffs: meat, rice, pasta, biscuits, milk, jam, chicken, oil... everything needed to feed, at least temporarily, family of six people. A few kilometres from Minya, a province often targeted by terrorist attacks, they joined the parishioners of the Coptic Orthodox church of Maximus and Saint Damatheus of Cairo to give sweaters to 2000 children. It is a cold, hard winter. Volunteers also visited El Gouira, Bangar and the slum of Helwan.

SOS Chrétiens d’Orient is trying to meet the urgent food needs of the poorest people in its five mission countries. Often, due to insufficient funding, the association is obliged to reduce its aid to these families who are living in extreme insecurity.

For all of these Egyptian families, SOS Chrétiens d’Orient has an urgent need for additional funds. A food package for a family of six people costs just 5 Euros.

Today, decide to act for them.
